Ava Marie and Leah Rose Clements were born prematurely in 2010. Their parents, Kevin and Jaqi Clements were understandaby thrilled because not only were they lovely twins but they were healthy and gourgeous. Jaqi immediately saw modeling potential in her two daughters and it is thanks to their mom these twins right now are professional models -and highly successful ones at that. These are the photographs of the Clements twins that became an internet sensation.

The Twins were born prematurely

According to their mother Jaqi, the twins were born 4 and a half weeks prematurely. Fortunately they turned out perfectly normal. Better yet, they were very healthy and beautiful.

Not long before their looks drew attention

Via Facebook

Since the beginning it was clear these twins were very special. Their were simply strikingly gorgeous. Compliments were frequent enough as to become commonplace and it really is not hard to see why… Perfect symmetry, porcelaine-smooth skin and perfectly-shaped blue eyes that made them look like little angels.

The word on the street is that they should be models

Via Facebook

Jaqi always received the same compliments when she took out her daughters: “They’re really beautiful, they should be models” or “Hey you should consider getting them into modelling.” And it didn’t take much more encouraging than that before Jaqi decided to give it a shot.

Modelling and three kids is a bit too much on your plate

Via Facebook

Jaqi signed up the twins with a modelling agency in L.A. when they turned six. By then she had a son aged 2 as well and suffice it to say the attempt at modelling was short-lived. She simply didn’t have the time and the energy and in three months she decided to give it up.

Keeping Things Normal

Via Facebook

As appealing as it was for Jaqi to guide her children into a modelling career, she concluded it wasn’t the right time yet. She felt strongly about raising her daughters alonside children their own age. She had no regrets taking them out of modelling. Time passed and things evolved.

What did the twins want?

Via Facebook

Jaqi felt being mother of three was overwhelming enough without any modelling involved. They gave it a shot for three months and now it was over. But she wondered how the twins felt about it. After all they should have a say.

Asking the twins

Via Facebook

The only problem with asking the twins was that they were still toddlers, incapable of voicing their opinions. Jaqi and her husband gave this matter a lot of thought and decided to wait for the right time to ask the twins their thoughts on the subject.

Jaqi’s lucky number: 7

Via Facebook

Jaqi believes in signs and attaches great importance to these things. Her lucky number was 7 and curiously enough the twins were born on a July 7th (7/7) so the signs were clearly there so she would ask them on their birthday. When they turned 7 on July 7th, 2017 Jaqi was pretty exited to ask her twins.

The twins turned 7

Ava and Leah turned 7 on July 7th, 2017. Jaqi thought it most auspicious to ask the twins on this day. The twins by then were already involved in dancing and swimming and Jaqi simply told them that appart from dance classes and swimming they could give modelling a shot if they wanted.

The girls thought about it and then replied….

Body language

The response of the girls was jumping up and down. They seemed really excited to give modelling a go.

Models… Again!

Via Facebook

Now it was the right time and as it often happens when the time is right things started falling into place. Jaqi’s neighbor had a children’s boutique and it was opened only recently. The boutique needed models. Their job would be to help market the new store.

Going easy at first

Via Facebook

Jaqi was decided to take things easy at first. She fished her old Nikon from a bin in her garage, made on waves on the girl’s hair and applied a little bit of blush on their faces before going out for a photoshoot.

Cutting some slack

Via Facebook

The twins hadn’t the first idea about modelling. They would accidentally bump into each other and thinking it had been on purpose bump each other back again. But they looked beautiful and Jaqi decided cutting them some slack.

Getting an agency again

Via Facebook

Jaqi needed to get a modelling agency for the twins but she had been out of the game for six years. She kept some contacts still and decided to try with them first. She thought that maybe she’d get a call from one. She received calls from every single contact she tried. Jaqi finally signed up the twins with 2 agencies.

Why signing up with 2 agencies turned out badly

Via Facebook

Jaqi thought she was being very clever signing the twins with 2 agencies. Her rationale was that they would get more exposure and therefore more opportunities. But what happened was that both agencies called her for the same job. It was a Barbie audition and Jaqi had to come clean. Fortunately, people were reasonable and everything got fixed in a matter of hours.

Social media sensation

Via Facebook

Jaqi decided to open an Instagram account for the twins. That is how @clementstwins was born in July 2017. She wanted it to be a portafolio but she never expected to gain over 300,000 followers in less than five months.

Quality pictures are the key

Via Facebook

Even though the twins were absolutely gorgeous, the account would not have been so successful, whithout’s Jaqi’s “know-how.” Jaqi knew the importance of image quality. “It’s all about the pictures” she said. after recomending never settling for an average photographer to save money.

Another model in the family

Via Facebook

The twins had an older brother named Chase and he did not only ended up working for the same agencies as a model, he was in some commercials as well.

Job offers abound

Via Facebook

One week into modeling and the twins had six jobs already. They were happy and wanted more…

Nothing is perfect

Via Facebook

Jaqi had absolutely no prior knowledge of the industry. We learnt in her blog that it was better to know people before letting them offer guidance.

The right guidance

Via Facebook

When it comes to working with people Jaqi recommends trusting your instincts. If there’s something that seems off it is better to trust your gut. She’s convinced it pays up in the long run.

Ignoring negative people -and their comments…

Via Facebook

Jaqi also writes on her blog about negative people. Her take is that it’s not easy ignoring negative comments about you or the people you love, but it’s better to say nothing if you have nothing nice to say and the best way to deal with negative people -and their comments- is to ignore them.

Sadness in their eyes

Via Facebook

Speaking of negative comments one that seems prevalent is that the twins look sad. Some comments outright accuse Jaqi of forcing them to model. They’re supposed to look that way and the twins are very happy according to Jaqi.

Make-up

Via Facebook

Some people make a huge deal about the girls wearing make up. The argument seems to be that the twins are too young for make up. Well, there’s not much to say about that. The twins are models and they get photographed by professionals. They need to wear makeup. It’s the industry standard.

Let them be kids!

Via Facebook

That’s another prevalent comment Jaqi gets… “let them be kids!” Jaqi’s response is that these people seem to forget that it was their choice to model in the first place.

They don’t just “model”

Via Facebook

The twins goof around a lot during photoshoots. They make playlists in the car and mess with eachother a lot.

The practical upshot of modelling

Via Facebook

Modeling although sometimes exhausting, has brought the family together accordning to Jaqi. The trips they take allow them to spend more time together than most families and they also meet new people which is fun.

More benefits

Via Facebook

The twins frequently receive products from companies who want publicity. The twins test them during photo shoots and tag these companies in the photos they publish on social media.

Tips for Instagram success

Via Facebook

Jaqi’s learnt a thing or two about Instagram. You don’t get over 300,000 followers not knowing what you’re doing. She knew nothing at first of course but now she’s a bit of an expert. Here are some tips…

Do not post excesively

Via Facebook

Overposting makes people sick of your account. Jaqi’s recommendation is to post frequently but in moderation.

Use Hastags

Via Facebook

Adequate use of hashtags will provide the best possible exposure. What Jaqi does is that she uses similar hashtags as other models with similar age. That way the twin’s posts can be found on those accounts as well.

Tags get you more likes

Via Facebook

Jaqi believes it’s very important to tag people on her posts. It serves a double purpose. On one hand it shows appreciation to the people you tag, be it makeup artists or photographers and on the other hand, when someone searches for the people you tag, your Instagram page shows up as well. “You need to tag the picture and the comments” says Jaqi.

Follow the Right People

Via Facebook

You don’t just follow people because you’re interested on their content. You follow them because they’re more likely to follow you in return if you do. Jaqi followed everyone at first, including all the accounts of models who were children and photographers. When she had a big number of followers she unfollowed many and kept only the ones she truly wanted.

Do Comment

Via Facebook

You need to take advantage of the comment section to have a successful Instagram account. Jaqi would comment about pictures of other models, photographers etc. Starting conversations and becoming acquainted with others is crucial.

Certain types of pictures get more likes than others

Via Facebook

Jaqi started noticing that some pictures received more likes than others regardless of quality. For instance, pictures where both of the twins appeared with their eyes next to each other for instance, received more likes that pictures where they weren’t close.

Honesty is always best

Via Facebook

One of the things they all learnt is that honesty is always best. Either dealing with agencies, photographers or even other models, being honest about your true thoughts “keeps things clear” and makes people truly like you.

The choice is entirely theirs

Via Facebook

The twins and their parents reached an agreement regarding whether or not they should continue working as models if they felt they didn’t want to do it anymore. Both parents agreed to provide their support for as long as they needed it with no strings attached. The second the twins felt compelled to leave it, they would stop. They will only stay for as long as they’re happy.
